The Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development & Land Reform with support from South African National Parks (SAN Parks) hosted a game donation event at the Rolfontein Nature Reserve in Vanderkloof, Northern Cape.
This initiative, was a two-part program in which the first half of the programme redressed the historic exclusion of previously disadvantaged individuals from the game farming industry through the donation of surplus game to black farmers in order to establish their own viable wild-life enterprises.
The event commenced with remarks from Mr. Abrahams, Director of Biodiversity Management , elaborating on the program's objectives, followed by the Mayor of Rhinosterburg Municipality Mr Andrew Samson , who discussed the growth of Vanderkloof and its municipality.
MEC Manopole addressed beneficiaries, highlighting the program's significance in fostering growth, sustainability, and conservation of flora and fauna in the Northern Cape, whilst also promoting inclusion of historically disadvantaged black game farmers. The proceedings concluded with the HOD expressing gratitude and offering words of encouragement to the beneficiaries.
A total of 7 beneficiaries signed agreements for the handover of the received game. The program incurred a total cost of R3.6 million, with game worth R2.5 million and capturing expenses amounting to R1.1 million. The program's success underscores our province's commitment to modernization, growth, and prosperity.
