Regulate compliance to the Meat Safety Act(Act 40 of 2000)


The purpose of the sub programme is to promote the safety of meat and meat products.


  1. Promote the safety of meat and meat products at harvesting level through the registration and monitoring of abattoirs.
  2. Promote food safety awareness programmes.
  3. Liaise with relevant stakeholders on the prevention and treatment of food borne diseases.
  4. Provide auditing and quality assurance services along the food value chain process.
  5. Provide residue and microbial monitoring service.
