MEC MANOPOLE WELCOMES THE WORKING OF FIRE TEAM.

MEC Mase Manopole has welcomed the Working on Fire (WOF) Team to the Northern Cape, following veldfire outbreaks in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District.
The WOF is an Expanded Public Works Program under the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, which has employed young men and women, who have been fully trained as wildfire firefighters and are stationed in more than 200 bases throughout South Africa.
WOF addresses the prevention and control of wildland fires to enhance the sustainability and protection of life, properties and the environment through the implementation of Integrated Fire Management solutions.
"We welcome the WOF team in our Province and their presence since yesterday has seen our ground teams in the Province being reinforced and able to put out the fire between Danïelskuil and Koopmansfontein," said MEC Manopole.
"Today they will join our ground forces in order to mop up the areas which have been affected by the fire. Working in conjunction with the Fire Protection Association Managers they will identifying hotspots and active fires, to ensure quick and effective response," said MEC Manopole.
The Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development and Land Reform will today start with the assessment on the damage caused by the fires and further provide assistance by providing fodder to affected farmers.
