Dept. puts up signage at The Mc Dougall's Bay Islands in Port- Nolloth
The signage is put-up to create awareness on the Endangered Cormorant Breeding pairs along the Northern Cape coast.
These Islands are important breeding sites for 4 Cormorant (Duiker) bird species namely;
- Cape Cormorant (Trekduiker)
- Bank Cormorant (Bankduiker)
- Crowned Cormorant (Kuifkopduiker)
- White-Breasted Cormorant (Witborsduiker).
The decrease in breeding has been caused mainly by fish shortages and disturbances at nesting sites.
