MEDIA STATEMENT: NORTHERN CAPE PROVINCIAL VETERINARY LABORATORY (NCPVL) MAINTAINS THE SANAS ACCREDITATION
The Northern Cape Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development and Land Reform ’s Provincial Veterinary Laboratory (NCPVL) has once again made the province proud by successfully maintaining its accreditation with only nine deficiencies (non-conformances) identified by the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS).
The laboratory was audited by SANAS on 21st November 2023. This achievement was realized through the collaborative efforts involving the Department and the recently hired Veterinary Technologists.
Following the inaugural SANAS accreditation, the laboratory has experienced an increase in the volume of samples received from neighbouring provinces. The upcoming audit is scheduled for the year 2025.
The Department of Agriculture, Land reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) and the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) have a shared responsibility to ensure that veterinary laboratories carry out their activities in such a way that the needs of the customers and regulatory requirements are met.
The Provincial Veterinary Laboratory plays a critical role of laboratory work, as it offers a range of services such as gross pathology, serology, molecular diagnostics and parasitology for controlled and production diseases. Therefore, to support this variety of high-quality work, the Laboratory needs to meet the global requirements as prescribed by ISO17025: 2017 standard.
