Cleaning and Greening Campaign
It was all hands on deck when officials from Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment in-conjuction with Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development and Land Reform joined hands to plant trees and clean up Stillwater Intermediate School, just a stone throw outside Riverton in Dikgatlhong Local Municipality.
The gesture is part of the Department's Cleaning and keeping your Environment Clean Campaign. The campaign seeks to encourage everyone to care for their environment and keep it clean. Stillwater Intermediate School is located at Stillwater Farm and has 239 learners, nine educators, and two support staff. The School Principal Mr Thabang Mbizeni applauded the program at his school "it's a fantastic gesture and much appreciated, as planting trees and cleaning not only beautifies the environment but also contributes to combating climate change and promotes biodiversity".
He has one request to the Department though "If we can get assistance with our ultimate goal of having our own food garden which will promote healthy eating, environmental awareness, food security, community engagement and life skills". He further said they will breathe a sigh of relief as the overall food garden at school will serve as valuable for promoting health and sustainability.
The team will continue to visit other schools as well with the same mission.
