The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development ‘s Veterinary Services in conjunction with Onderstepoort Biological Products (OBP) will be holding a two day Scientific Meeting in Upington from 07-08 December 2016.

 The two day meeting seeks to share new scientific approaches and scientific control measures in the country.


The gathering will also be used as an opportunity to recognise those officials who served the department, especially in the Veterinary Services, for long service with aplomb. Experts in the field will be deliberating on the following issues:

  • Challenges & control of foreign animal diseases entering through the Northern Cape Borders.
  • The African Swine Fever outbreak in the North West and Free State as well as how the Northern Cape is responding.
  • A current picture of Bovine Tuberculosis in Wildlife, in the Northern Cape as well as the challenges of control.
  • International Trade Challenges: South Africa’s perspective.
  • South African Veterinary Council Matters.
  • Rabies control challenges in Wildlife.
  • Illegal slaughtering roles and responsibilities.
