The Northern Cape Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development’s Veterinary Services will be joining the International arena to celebrate the World Veterinary Day.
The day will be celebrated on the 29th April 2017 under the theme “Antimicrobial resistance – from awareness to action”.
The term antimicrobial refers to any product that has activity against the whole spectrum of micro-organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. Antibiotics are substances that specifically kill or inhibit bacteria that cause disease in humans and animals, and are the focus of this discussion. Veterinarians throughout the country will be engaging in radio interviews, as part of enlightening farmers. Whilst the Northern Cape will utilise platforms such as Farmers Day and Agricultural Union meetings to present the topic and to educate them. They will also touch on why the World Veterinary Association together with the World Veterinary Organization for Animal Health chooses the topic “Antimicrobial resistance – from awareness to action”.
