The Northern Cape Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development’s Provincial Veterinary Laboratory (NCPVL) has successfully passed the test with aplomb.
This after the Northern Cape Provincial Veterinary Laboratory (NCPVL) successfully underwent a six-month post accreditation surveillance audit by the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS).
The NCPVL set out to maintain the quality and confidence in the results generated by the lab and continues to offer a quality services to various communities within and in the neighbouring Provinces such as North West and Free State.
SANAS is the only National Body responsible for carrying out accreditations in respect of conformity assessment, as mandated by the Accreditation for Conformity Assessment, Calibration and Good Laboratory Practice Act.
Meanwhile the Laboratory invited the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) for an audit as they are the enforcer of the Veterinary and Para-veterinary Professions Act, the Animal Diseases Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act in Laboratories.
The accreditation by SANAS and approval by DAFF means that the results from the NCPVL or certificates issued by the laboratory will be accepted internationally. Therefore, there will be no need to re-test the samples or products in-case they cross the South African borders to other countries.
The DAFF report is still pending, however deliberations from the meeting outlined that few areas in the laboratory need improvements. The latter has been given three months to address the deficiency. Overall, the auditors were satisfied about the performance of the laboratory. The next surveillance visit by SANAS is expected at the beginning of 2019. End
