DEPT TO INDUCT 62 ASSISTANT AGRICULTURAL PRACTITIONERS (AAPs).
The Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development and Land Reform is expected to induct and orientate about 62 Assistant Agricultural Practitioners (AAPs) in Upington on the 09th February.
The induction and orientation of 62 AAPs is for them to gain extension and advisory experience for a period of three months from seasoned Extension Practitioners. The move is a join initiative by the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) and the Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs. Rural Development and Land Reform (DEARL).
The aim of the orientation session is to provide the AAPs and Extension Practitioners with broad overview of the programme and expectations from all role players.
The DALRRD availed R229 million that will be used to appoint about 4537 AAPs country wide. Thus allocation per Province where based on the current ratio for of Extension Practitioners/Farmers in the Province. The Northern Cape Province were supposed to get 200 AAPs and about 29 declined due to various reasons.
Some of the tasks at hand for the AAPs – they are expected to strengthen the Extension and Advisory Service within and outside the Department thus servicing our farmers. END
