The Northern Cape Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development will be celebrating the Nelson Mandela Week starting from the 16 July 2012. The Nelson Mandela Day campaign was launched three years ago by President Jacob Zuma to celebrate the birthday of Mr Mandela as well as the tireless contribution he has made for the country. Mandela Day is on the 18th July and is also an annual International Day adopted by the United Nations in 2009.

As part of the activities, the officials of the department including senior managers will roll-up their sleeves and be hard at work in establishing vegetable garden, for the communities across the province, distributing starter-packs, demonstrations of vegetable planting, visiting old age homes and tank installation from the 17th to 20th.
 On the 17th the Head of Department, Mr Viljoen Mothibi will lead a team in Namakwa distributing starter packs, assisting with dog spaying campaign and information sharing amongst others.
