MEC MASE MANOPOLE BRINGS A SPARK OF HOPE TO HUTCHISON IN PIXLEY KA SEME DISTRICT
The MEC for Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development and Land Reform, Mme Mase Manopele has brought a spark of hope to the sleepy Hutchison area near Victoria West in the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality.
This as MEC Manopole handed over various starter packs, food hampers, paint, poly fillers, mattresses, wheelbarrows animal health kits to 10 farmers as part of nation-wide Mandela Day celebrations. The objective of the Mandela Day is to commemorate the struggle icon Nelson Mandela. It also seeks to inspire individuals to take action and help change the world for the better.
The Hutchison Primary School and the local Crèche benefited the most from the bulk of what MEC donated. The school caters for 93 learners, five educators and two staff members.
Meanwhile the MEC also used the day to visit the evicted farm worker and one child headed household who is 16 years old. The child stays alone as most of the time her brother is away working in the farms, he only comes home once every week for two days. The young girl cited her mother’s passing on and her father’s lifestyle choices which contributed to her decision to drop out of school. The other challenge she cited was lack of transportation and financial means to pay for transportation to school.
The MEC together with the Veterinary Services Unit vaccinated 46 dogs and 10 cats as part the Mandela Day.The Hutchison community is mainly depended on social grants, CWP projects, subsistence farming and few farm workers.
The Nelson Mandela International Day was launched in recognition of “Utata” Nelson Mandela’s birthday on the 18th July 2009 via unanimous decision of the United Nations General Assembly. This year’s commemoration theme was “It Is in Your Hands: Clean, Plant, Feed and Sustain”.
