MEC MASE MANOPOLE’S INTERVENTION YIELDED POSITIVE RESULTS

The interventions of MEC for Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development and Land Reform, "Mme" Mase Manopele and her team for Hutchison learner who quit school due to family and financial circumstances has yielded positive results.

A 16-year-old one child headed household, whose name and surname cannot be mentioned but known to MEC, quit school due to the passing on of her mother and father due to their lifestyle choices, has contributed to her decision to drop out of school. The child stays alone as most of the time her brother is working in the farms and only comes home once every week for two days.

During "Utata" Nelson Mandela Day celebrations on the 18th ,in Hutchison about 12 km South-East of Victoria West, MEC Manopole visited the child and had one on one as mother to daughter session. The child cited amongst others, lack of transportation and financial means to pay for transportation to school.

An elated MEC Manopole could not contain her joy as a mother. "Through our intervention, I can proudly say the child is re-admitted back to school at Victoria West Combined School and she will commence her grade 10 classes on Monday 24 July 2023."Not only that, our learner will be staying at the hostel and will be fully supported by our Department". Exclaimed! MEC Manopole.

The learner will be catered for with all her school uniform and hostel needs. The Department has also aided her to apply for an Identity Document which will come in handy for the young lady .As former President Nelson Mandela once said "Education is the great engine of personal development.

It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can became a doctor, that the son of a mine worker can become the head of the mine; that a child of farm workers can become the president of a great nation" Hence MEC Manopole strived for the child to get back to school.

The Hutchison community is mainly depended on social grants, CWP projects, subsistence farming and few farm workers.
